Here’s what you need to know before opening an account with us.
Opening a current account with us
We’ll ask you for some information so we can process your application.
- If you’re new to Danske, you’ll need to be resident in Northern Ireland; or
- If you’re already a customer of ours and you’d like to open a new current account, you’ll need to live in the United Kingdom.
As part of your application, you’ll have to provide us with some personal information such as who you are, where you live and your employment status. We’ll also ask for some financial information such as your income, outgoings and any debts you might have.
For some current account applications, we may ask for documentation to verify your income. We will let you know what we require when your application has been assessed. This can include copies of recent payslips or if self-employed, your most recent Tax Calculation / SA302 along with a copy of your most recent Tax Year Overview.

Proof of Identity
We’ll try to confirm your identity and address electronically, but if we can’t we’ll ask you for proof of your identity and current residential address. This may also be required if you are a parent or guardian of a child under the age of 16 opening an account. You can find a list of acceptable documents below.
Please provide original documents for proof of identity (no photocopies). Acceptable examples include:
- Valid passport
- Valid UK Photo-Card Driving Licence (Full or Provisional) OR Valid ROI Photo-Card Driving Licence (Full)
- Current Northern Ireland Electoral Identity Card
- Valid Department for Infrastructure/Translink Smartpass (Half Fare, 60+, or Senior)

Proof of Address
Please provide original documents for proof of address (no photocopies). Acceptable examples include:
- Utility bill, dated within the last six months (gas, electricty, phone) - excludes mobile phone bills and store card statements
- Land and Property Services bill or notice for the current year
- Valid UK Photo-Card Driving Licence (Full or Provisional) - if not used for identity proof
- Recent benefit entitlement proof, dated within the last six months (e.g., letter from Department for Communities, HMRC or Housing Executive)
- Recent State Pension entitlement proof, dated within the last six months
- Bank, building society, or credit union statement dated within the last six months - Danske Bank statements not accepted

The Current Account Switch Service makes switching to us stress free.
- Day 1
The Current Account Switch Service will check if the switch can go ahead. - Day 3–5
Your regular payments will be moved across to your new Danske Bank Personal Current Account. - Day 7
Your balance will be moved to your new Danske Bank Personal Current Account, and your old personal current account will be closed. We’ll let you know that the switch is complete.
If we are not able to complete the switch on your chosen date, we will contact you to agree a new one.
